Elizabeth Cortez sings to Selena Gomez at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas
Click ‘more info’ for additional links about this video. Elizabeth Cortez woke up unexpectedly paralyzed from the chest down on July 8, 2009. She was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a rare neurological disorder that causes inflammation of the spine. She is being treated at Childrens Medical Center by doctors from UT Southwestern Medical Center, which has one of only two dedicated transverse myelitis programs in the country. With the help of the program’s director, Dr. Benjamin Greenberg, Elizabeth is making strides toward recovery. At Childrens, Cortez got to meet her favorite celebrity, Selena Gomez, who visited patients at the hospital in December 2009.
