Whats the topics??
You may select from topics such as the legalization of marijuana or other illicit drugs, needle exchange programs, crack vs cocaine sentencing discrepencies, mandatory sentencing for illegal drug users, mandatory drug testing for those who receive government aid, steroid supplement use in athletics, the legal drinking age, etc.
Mine : There are so many people I know whose lives are affected by substance abuse. Some of them are actually drug users, yet others are there love ones. Because of drugs, many people have lost their homes, businesses, and even their families. A solution to substance abuse is rehabilitation. Yet, in most instances the drug abuser must agree or volunteer to go to rehabilitation in order to receive treatment, unless court ordered by a judge.
The problem is most drug abusers do not desire to go to rehabilitation because they want to keep using the drug. Therefore, I feel drug users love ones need to have the power to admit them into rehabilitation for treatment, and the drug user should not have to agree or volunteer to go to rehabilitation for treatment. However, love ones should have the authority to admit drug users, provided that their is evidence and proof that an individual indeed has a drug problem.

Well, in one way I agree with you, I sort of wish we could force people to get help before they ruin their lives and the lives of those around them. But it isn’t that simple. I think part of the problem is, that if drug/alcohol abusers do not go into rehabilitation voluntarily, it might not be successful. People cannot be forced to change; change really does not occur until the individual decides they WANT to change. Even in rehab that person would probably be fighting it every step of the way. They could be detoxed, but that doesn’t mean they will learn anything in counseling or the other parts of the program that will stick with them (because they will be resentful of being there), and they might still go right back on drugs after they go out. It might work for some people, but probably not most.
