Drugs are screwing up America, and Mexico?
Question by Trailrunner: Drugs are screwing up America, and Mexico?
Example: An 8 year old kid had a great summer, swimming, playing with his friends, running around, just having fun while learning about the world around him. School comes around, and now he is forced to sit in a seat for 7 hours a day, bored out of his mind and absolutely stir crazy. He inevitably starts acting up in class, and the teacher can’t stand this. She complains to his parents, who get him tested by an ADHD specialist, diagnosing him in about 15 minutes. Now he’s on Ritalin, and is much calmer! Wow, just a little drug treatment has totally changed his personality. Now when he’s older and has problems, will he even think twice about using other, stronger drugs to help him feel better about himself? Of course not, drugs have “worked” in the past, why not skip the prescription and go right to whatever he can get from that cool kid down the street.
Now a bunch of guys south of the border see this huge demand for drugs in America and decide to take advantage of the obvious economic opportunity. They can get over 100 times the cost of making the drug from Americans of all ages who, despite the “just say no” campaigns and the strict penalty for possession of a banned substance, simply cannot help themselves. Soon these cartels are doing anything they can to maintain their stronghold, including murdering helpless civilians who may be in the way. But we are high as a kite, so what do we care?
Of course this is a generalization, and a simplified one at that, but you get the point. I would argue that drugs should be de-criminalized in large part, or we should educate Americans on the side effects of our drug use on other people. And stop relying on drugs to solve all of our problems.

The war on drugs is what’s creating all of the problems (similar to the prohibition) in addition to the standardization of formal education procedures (as it’s obvious by now that not every child learns the same exact way).
It’s now “How smart are you?”, but it’s “How are you smart?”
