Yes, the NBA tests for “Drugs of abuse” as well as steroids. The problem is that veteran players can only be tested once a year, during training camp. Unless the player is a hopeless addict, it’s not difficult to stop using drugs a month or so before training camp starts, and then stay clean until the beginning of the regular season. Once the season tips off, or the player has been tested during training camp, then they know they don’t have to worry about being tested again until the following year.
