Does prior Meth usuage always lead to being put on depression meds??
Question by timcodyben: Does prior Meth usuage always lead to being put on depression meds??
I am a recovering meth addict with a little over 2 years clean and was put on antideppressants shortly after i quit using. The question i have is does this affect all meth addicts in the same way when they quit using?? I have talked to a lot of recovering addicts and everyone one of them seems to be on something.

When you use drugs that effect the brain the way that Meth does, it often changes the way your brain operates. The way your brain once worked has changed, and so it takes time for it to figure out how to work properly again. Antidepressants will take care of some symptoms, but changing your life or entering into therapy could actually change the chemistry of your brain. It’s also possible that the reason that you used Meth to begin with wasn’t resolved by using, and so it still existed once you stopped and was compounded by the changes made by the Meth use. Anyway, congratulations on your recovery. I know it’s hard. Stay strong and remain positive. The more positive choices you make, the better it’ll get.
