My mother has hepatitis C and has decided to undergo treatment. (Her twin sister passed away due to Liver Failure from Hepatitis C in Dec) She has just learned that her insurance will not cover the cost of either of the medications used to treat Hepatitis C. Does anyone know of any assistance programs that will either cover the entire cost or at least a portion of the cost of these drugs. One cost 1,000 a month and the other is 500.00, she will be on the treatment for about 6 months. And if anyone is familiar with the treatment of this disease you know that the medication makes you very sick. More than likely she will be forced to take a leave of absence from work to undergo treatment. I greatly appreciate any information that anyone has. Thank you.

Check with her Hep C specialist and the companies that make the medications. Sometimes the companies that make the medications have programs that help reduce the cost of medications for patients who meet certain income level requirements. (The Hep C specialist would have to submit paperwork to the company.) Not all companies have these assistance programs, but it would be worth looking into. Good Luck!
