Seriously. Eight Belles wasn’t treated cruelly, or abused. Her death was an accident. It was a tradgic death, and she did not deserve it, but horse racing itself isn’t a cruel sport. People keep posting comments on how “horse racing is so terrible” and how “we need to do something to help”. If they really wanted to help, why don’t they like go raise money and donate? I don’t really get their point either. Thoroughbreds like to run, and they need horse racing to keep their breed alive.
And then they think we who are for horse racing are ignorant and don’t care for horses. Just because we like horse racing doesn’t mean that we don’t love horses just as much as the rest of you.
I think people should just stop bashing horse racing and give it up. there is no way they will be able to stop it either. The racing industry is huge.
I respect all your opinions, and I agree that they could change the age that the horses would race. Eight Belles WAS very young, most likely too young. I understand your point and that, and agree, but when people call me “stupid idiot” and tell me to “get a life” because I am ok with horse racing I don’t understand. At least tell me WHY i shouldn’t like horse racing.
I agree. With out racing this breed could be extinct.
And yes, people do want money from this, but that doesn’t mean the owner, trainer, and jockey don’t love their horse as much as we love our horses at home.
No animal has a choice. Dogs don’t “choose” to be your pet. Birds don’t “choose” to live in a cage. Horses don’t get to “choose” when they want to be ridden. No, Eight Belles didn’t have a choice, but neither do your little critters at home.
Redwing Fan- do you have a point? Don’t be rude and just start yelling at me. If you tell me your opinion, i will listen and respect it, but just calling me names and yelling at me doesn’t prove anything.
Every single person on here should know the owner and jockey felt terrible. Just because they got money out of it, doesn’t mean they didn’t love Eight Belles as much as the rest of us. You can’t say her owner was greedy, you don’t know him, and have no idea if he loved Eight Belles or not.
