Does any one know the law about Pseudoephed in California?

I know bad guys use it for making meth, but does this mean it’s now illegal in California. I have not been able to get a straight answer from any store other than they don’t carry it anymore. Can I buy it in other states and legally have it in California? How about with a perscription?
Sudafed is a brand name and they have reformulated their product to not have any Pseudoephed any more.
