Does a long term abuse of opiates(pain pills) lower or even kill a sexual desire and erections?

Question by [email protected]: Does a long term abuse of opiates(pain pills) lower or even kill a sexual desire and erections?
I’ve been 1 year clean of any use of opiates.I used to take approx. 50-100 tablets of Vicodin,Percocet, etc… a day for a few years.I love my wife and feel emotionally very close and I am very touchy-feely person, but we weren’t physically close for a long, long time.More than a year…I just do not have a desire or ability anymore…Is my drug use responsible?Has this happened to anybody else?Thank you…

Both Sexual Activity and Opiates cause your body to release endorphins, chemicals that produce analgesia (pain reduction) and a sense of well-being (euphoria).

People currently abusing opiates commonly report a reduction in sex drive.

Since you say you’ve been clean for a year, I really don’t think your problem is related (chemically, that is).

However, not being physically close to someone for a long, long time can cause these problems (regarless of drugs or anything else).

You may want to seek some sort of marriage counseling or therapy to address this problem since it seems to be more psychological than anything else.
