Do you think most of us abuse the main purpose of Y! Answers?
Question by Someone you wish you knew…: Do you think most of us abuse the main purpose of Y! Answers?
I notice this every time I visit Answers. There is always a large block showing Y! announcements and featured questions and a single answer. But Yahoo seems to only post “Curious” questions, that I bet 35% don’t ask. I copied some examples below.
Yahoo:
“Why do Olives always come in a glass jar?”
“What is the biggest tree?”
“Why do we call it ‘Cup of Joe’?”
“Where did the ‘@’ sign originate from?”
The average Question in Answers:
“Do I look fat?”
“HHHEEELLLPPP??? DEAR GOD PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Do we look good as a couple?”
“Guys, 1 to 10, how hot am I?”
“What do you think of my hair? Be honest?”
My main point is, we come here to ask questions, and answer questions, not to rate one’s hair or body. Yahoo probably just posts those because viewers may be turned away if they saw one of those questions above when they visit. And they do seem on top of keeping the community, I guess safe would be the word. In fact, Not too long ago I took a quiz of the “Community Guidelines”. Every time you ask a question, there is a note saying “Make sure your question follows the guidelines.”
