Do you feel the effects of a lidocaine injection when you take suboxone?
Question by Debbie S: Do you feel the effects of a lidocaine injection when you take suboxone?
Suboxone is a drug used for opiate addiction and it blocks opiates from receptors (pain receptors) in your brain. I need to have a cyst extracted and need lidocaine to numb the area.

Lidocaine is not an opiate, it is a locally acting anesthetic which acts on the fast gated sodium channels in the neuron. Basically, it blocks pain signals from the neuron, so it never reaches your brain to be interpreted as pain.
Suboxone acts on a completely different receptor pathway within the brain itself.
