Do they normally administer drug tests when you participate in a clinical trial?

Question by [email protected]: Do they normally administer drug tests when you participate in a clinical trial?
I just signed up for a clinical trial on a new drug for major depression. Do they usually drug test you (for marijuana) during this process? I figure they probably at least do for hard drugs, but I wasn’t sure about weed.

Hi,

It depends on the study. Because drugs have a huge effect on the brain, they can play a huge role in your depression.

If they do test you for illegal drugs, they will definitely test you for marijuana. I’ve never administered a drug test that didn’t test for THC (marijuana), even if the person was a heroin or crack addict. It’s 100% standard for drug testing. Also marijuana effects the brain more long-term than other illegal drugs (like heroin or meth or coke) and can cause major long-lasting depression in chronic marijuana users.

Good luck with your trial! I hope it helps with your depression…
