Do rehab centers really work?

Question by Amy M: Do rehab centers really work?
My sister left one and was doing really well at a half way house then had a relapse and tried to kill hersef. I will help pay for her to go back. Would it be better for me to give her money to get her on her feet again and lots of love and sapport. I have never heard of someone truly being helped by digging into their past only hurt.

Rehabs work. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t exist.

I wouldn’t suggest giving her money as she will just spend it on her habbit. Not everyone comes out of rehab the first time successfully. She may need to go several times before she is completely cured. But then again she may never be “completely cured”. That is why rehabs usually asign sponsors. Someone that your sister can turn to with an unbiased opinion on how she should and can handle things.

Sorry your sister has a problem and it’s good that she has you in her life. Keep up the good work and I hope everything turns out for the best.
