Question by Cynful1963: Do oxygen tanks labeled “Oxygen Compressed USP” contain anything besides oxygen?
My step mother has to use oxygen and I was told that the drug ephedrine was in them. From what I understand isn’t that an ingredient in the illegal drug methamphetamine?

Compressed oxygen is just that, compressed oxygen. USP denotes that it’s United States Pharmacopeial approved (to be used by humans for medicinal purposes). So, not to worry as there is definitely not any ephedrine in oxygen. I really have no idea why anyone would tell you tell you otherwise…

PS – Ephedrine isn’t illegal nor is it an ingredient in meth. Ephedrine is one of the starting materials that meth makers use to make meth. Pseudoephedrine is another. That’s why these substances are being closely monitored by the DEA.
