Do I need facts for writing a fictional story?

Question by any1_4wishing: Do I need facts for writing a fictional story?
I’m writing a story based on a fictional movie, and a made-up selection of people. In the story I’m writing the characters end up in a holocaust type of situation. Do you think I need to use real holocaust facts for my story, or because everything else in the story is fictional, can my “facts” be fictional as well?
