Do Atheists and Agnostics acknowledge that God exists when faced with their own pending death?

Question by Spaced Frehley: Do Atheists and Agnostics acknowledge that God exists when faced with their own pending death?
I’ve worked with alcoholics and drug addicts, seen many people in pain in the hospitals, and have know many to be atheist or agnostic for most of their lives, but will find them praying to God ( or whatever higher power ) when faced with pending possible death. Even their family members ask God for help during those possible death times.
