I’ve known the guy I like for a while. In the first few months of knowing each other, we weren’t that comfortable with each other, as we’re both pretty shy. All he would do is stare at me, smile at me, and laugh at stupid stuff I would say (he’s my friend’s brother, so we only hang out in a group). I don’t think we ever REALLY talked until maybe 3 months in of knowing each other. He added me on Facebook after that and sometimes he’d send me “love” on Facebook. He also began IMing me and telling me “good night” and sometimes “good night, sweet dreams” a couple nights a month, for 3 months. In person, he would often say random things to me to initiate a conversation, he’d continue to frequently stare at me and smile, he’d try to make eye contact with me and he’d always look into my eyes when we’d speak. He’d try to flirt with me and do anything to make me laugh or smile and he would tease me in a flirty way. (he’s done that up until recently) He also would say my name often. Basically, he spent a lot of time trying to get my attention and sometimes when I would act like I was ignoring him, he’d look disappointed. Over time, he’s shown that he cares about me. One time, his family offered me food and I said I wasn’t hungry and he said I “need” to eat. Another time, he told me not to do meth, “not even once” lol (not that I was planning to, he just RANDOMLY said it to me). Another time, his family was picking on me and he’s like “we only pick on you because we love you.” Once I had a status on Facebook that said “smile, happy looks good on you”, in which he replied “you’re right, so you should smile more often.”

Lately, however, he’s been acting really strange. I came over to their house early last month and for about 15-20 min., he acted like I didn’t exist. He didn’t even say hi to me. He said a few things to me randomly, to make conversation and he was, of course, looking into my eyes. Also, his feet and shoulders were facing me the entire time. I saw him again on Saturday and he came over a few times to talk to my friend and our friends, but he was looking into my eyes pretty much everytime, even though he didn’t speak to me. The only time he spoke to me, is when he was forced to speak to me (because it was a party and he was putting ice cream on my plate, so he was asking what kind I wanted) and it was very awkward and we both seemed nervous. I caught him staring at me a couple times, but for the most part, it was like I didn’t exist. The next day, he liked and commented mutual friends’ statuses on FB, but not mine.

I’m so confused…does he like me or does he not? We’re both 20. I feel like he’s been avoiding me lately, which is weird.

In my opinion he sounds like he is still shy. I mean he may feel like it’s difficult to talk to you because he isn’t sure what to talk to you about so that’s why your conversations are really random. And when your friends are around he may feel even more nervous to talk to you. That or he might be playing hard to get but I feel like he likes you from the way you said that he stares at you the entire time. If I were you I would keep talking to him and try to get to know him or maybe talk to his friends and see what he is like. I’m the kind of person who likes to find out stuff about a guy I like by talking to them and helping them break out of their shell while some of my friends are the kind to approach his friends and see what they can get out of them or send another friend to the crush and ask him, “So what do you think of my friend over there? I think she is pretty, don’t you?” in order to see how he feels.
If your crush seems to be responding to you then maybe you should just pull him aside and be real with him and say how you feel for him. It can be scary to do that but what do you have to lose? Sometimes if a guy hears that his crush likes him back then it automatically makes him have a 360 in behavior because he’s been assured you know?
