Curious to know people who can tell me past experiences with pregnancy and meth users?
Question by angy: Curious to know people who can tell me past experiences with pregnancy and meth users?
I have a younger sister who is 7 months pregnant and still using meth. I am curious to know if any of you know from past experiences anything wrong happening with babies after birth, while mothers were on meth. Also, what are some of the consequences of the baby being born with meth in its system? Do they test all babies immediately for drugs or would they have to be on alert that the mother is a habitual meth user? If anyone could share stories of people they knew/know of mothers on meth and the outcome of their child, it would be greatly appreciated so I could get an idea of what would happen when the child is born. Also, any advice on what to do when the child is born? Should I notify CPS or would the hospital handle it immediately upon the baby being tested? Thank you for all your answers in advance.
**Just to let you all know who have answered so far– yes, I have tried absolutely everything to deter her from doing drugs and taking down an innocent life with her. I live in a different state and there’s not much I can do or say if I’m not face to face with her. I have tried calling her doctor where she receives prenatal care and the nurse told me I can not discuss anything with her doctor because she is of age and it’s confidential etc. Even if I wanted to put the doctor on alert, the nurse told me I couldn’t. Don’t make hasty conclusions about this situation, people.. I am just trying to get answers.
I also am not able to call the police or CPS yet since the child is not born yet, once the child is born I am able to take matters into my own hands by calling and notifying them. I am just curious as to people’s stories about others. Thank you.

depending on how heavy a user she is there could be many problems with bub, ranging from slow development mentally and growth wise, the baby may be very unresponsive after birth, may not feed well, could have lung and breathing problems just to name a few, after birth the baby may also have severe withdrawal symptoms from not having the drug in its system, which will result in bub being in sever distress and may need to be looked after by professional neo natal nurses/doctors that deal with this sort of thing.
it is not the ideal situation to bring a baby into, this poor child is going to suffer because of its mothers selfish choices, if the mothers care providers dont already know that she is a user then they will learn very quickly once bub is born and will have to call the authorities as duty of care, the baby will most likley be taken off her untill she can prove she is capable of looking after the child, but if she is selfish and stupid enough to do drugs while she is pregnant i dont see whats going to make herself clean up once bub is born.
I am so sorry to hear this it breaks my heart that people like this are able to have babies and mistreat them in such a way.
