Crack Cocaine Laws and the Election

Question by Gamecock1964: Crack Cocaine Laws and the Election
I had a avid follower of barack obama tell me the reason he was voting for Obama was because Obama was going to take racism out of Law Enforcment. He claimed Obama pledged to do this by making cocaine laws less racist by lowering the penalty for possession of crack cocaine(now called cocaine base in law enforcement) because it offends people to call it crack cocaine). Here is a solution to the crack cocaine/racism issue..don’t use drugs and don’t have them in your possession and you won’t have to worry about Obama needing to change the laws for you. I can only hope Obama has better things on his agenda than creating more race friendly cocaine laws. The laws are not racist, they are meant to deter people from doing drugs. Does anyone else think this is ridiculous or am I alone?

-The argument against crack cocaine penalities being steeper than powder cocaine is that powdered cocaine is a “white drug” because it is more expensive. Crack cocaine is cheaper, yet more potent, so it is used more by low income people.

What? How does cracking down on crack make you racist? If only minorities do crack, then its not a great testimony for them.

If poor people do crack, then its a socio-economic thing, not a race thing. Geez!
