Cocaine Angel – A Danny Knapp Cover
**Used with permission from Danny Knapp** Here is an addition to my YouTube Friends Cover series, and this time it is the one and only Danny Knapp. There are some excellent writers on YouTube and Danny Knapp is certainly one of them. He writes those kind of songs that stay with you long after you hear them, and they will often make you ponder about things going on in your own life. I could say his writing is in the vein of Townes Van Zandt or Steve Earle, but that would oversimplify things… His writing also has a lot in common with Robert Frost… an angry Robert Frost if you will :o). I had a hard time settling on a song to cover because there were so many good ones on Danny’s channel, and also because many other folks have covered his songs before me. I finally decided to cover “Cocaine Angel”, which I think is a great representation of Danny’s writing. It is a finely crafted observation about drug abuse, but told in a completely non-judgemental way as a friend’s problem finally catches up with her. This is my view of the song anyway. Thanks for all the great songs, Danny. I hope my arrangement of Cocaine Angel doesn’t distress you too much :o) Instruments used: Octave Mandolin Mandolin 5-string short scale banjo Fretless bass (cello) Cocaine Angel by Danny Knapp all rights reserved www.youtube.com The long white lines have turned to grey swirling clouds dissolve and fade she lived the songs I couldn’t sing it’s all so plain her bones began to ache in winter and …
