Cheyne-stoking
A dark surreal reverie on the consequences of alcohol abuse in which David Evans is taken on a journey of repressed guilt and depression. “This is a poetic and both visually and aurally atmospheric film, playing with suspense and expectation with aplomb. Perhaps the conclusion is abrupt and somehow expected but this does not dampen the visceral quality of the film at all.” Wyndham Price Cheyne-Stoking shortlisted at the Re’Pe’Fe’Ne festival in Katowice – Poland, the Encounters Film Festival in Bristol, FFRESH in Aberystwyth, Wales and EatOurShorts fesitval in London. This is the first edit of my surrealist graduation film which takes an allegorical look at the consequences of alcohol abuse and repressed guilt. Heavily influenced by surrealism and abstract expressionism (a la David Lynch, Luis Bunuel, Maya Deren, Fritz Lang etc, etc), our objective was to create a dreamy vision to entice invitations that explore experiential reasons beyond the boundaries of ordinary rational consciousness and personal identity. I’ve recently added a counter-style documentary about my Re’Pe’Fe’Ne Film Festival experience. You can see it at www.youtube.com Thoughts, ratings and comments would be greatly appreciated! Many many thanks for watching… Darren Darko
