Causes, signs and symptoms of pregnancy miscarriage

A pregnancy that spontaneously ends before the fetus turns into a baby is termed as a miscarriage or spontaneous abortion. If you experience any kind of vaginal bleeding during your days of early pregnancy other than the implantation spotting, it might just be a threatened miscarriage. Vaginal bleeding is a normal occurrence during the stage of early pregnancy. More than 50% women experience it but most of them stop bleeding gradually and complete a normal pregnancy. Those who do not stop bleeding, obviously suffer a miscarriage. There are a few kinds of miscarriages that you might suffer.

A threatened miscarriage is experienced during early pregnancy. There is slight bleeding with a mild pain and usually the mouth of the womb is closed. Your doctor might conduct a pelvic examination to determine if your cervical os is open or no. the womb and the fallopian tubes are usually very tender in this form of a miscarriage. An inevitable miscarriage is termed when there is vaginal bleeding like in the first case but this time the cervical os is open as well. The bleeding is this case is more aggravated and there is some abdominal pain and cramping. Then there is an incomplete miscarriage. Before the twentieth week, some of the components of conception are bled out but not all in this case. The bleeding is even more than the second case and the abdominal pain lasts throughout. The mouth of the womb is open and an ultrasound that might be conducted just now would show parts of the fetus still remaining. The last kind is a complete miscarriage. All the conceived matter is bled out in this case including the placenta, the fetus; the tissues etc. Ultrasounds in this case would usually show an empty womb. Sometimes it is traumatic if you can see the fetus that you might have bled out during the miscarriage.

A miscarriage takes place when the fetus and the placenta get dislodged from the uterine wall. The definite reason for a miscarriage is not known but the probable ones are discussed here. If a fetus has abnormal characteristics, it is very natural for the womb to dislodge it naturally. This usually stems from genetically inherited bad genes and the chances of these passing on to the child increases with the aging of the mother. But if this has to take place, this is done in the first trimester itself. If a miscarriage occurs in the second trimester, it is because of a problem of the mother’s rather than that of the fetus’. Also if the mother is diabetic, has high blood pressure, any kidney disease, overactive thyroid glands and the like, then also miscarriages are probable. If you however go through thorough prenatal care, most of these are taken care of. Drugs and any form of addiction will aggravate chances of a miscarriage. Acute infections like mycoplasma, measles and other abnormalities within the mother’s body which does not suit the development of the baby will cause miscarriages
