CAPITAL LETTERS – Smoking my Ganja – reggae dub 12″ single
Fifth 12″ single release for Greensleeves record label and dating from 1978, this is a classic anthem of the ganja lover. The band Capital Letters from Wolverhampton were most remembered by their hit single ‘Smoking My Ganga’, this track was a top ten hit in England and Europe and was one of Greensleeves records first UK reggae signings in the late 70’s. The single was followed up by the album ‘Headline News’ which brought about many tours in Europe and the UK It is quite a weird sounding tune with a fast, frenetic rhythm and atonal noises. It is a reggae tune that could not have come from Jamaica. Made at the time in Britain which was dominated by punk and new wave and also the start of two-tone, this fits perfectly to that era. An era defined by Thatcher’s harsh rule and bleak times. Maybe getting off your head on drugs was the only way of relieving the pressure from Babylon in those days. ———————————- CAPITAL LETTERS – Smoking my Ganja I’m a wanted man Running away from the policeman Them want fe charge I For smoking ganja I see them coming Some are coming with their guns Some are coming with their batons Some are riding on horses Some are coming with their dogs Just fe catch I Oh oh just fe catch I (I feel the presence of the wicked) Meanwhile I’m smoking my ganja Them a use LSD Meanwhile I’m smoking my ganja Them a use them LSD Don’t wanna learn no GCE Or JSE Don’t trouble I (oh no) Don’t trouble I (oh no) I’m just smoking my ganja I’m just …
