They don’t work, save your money.

A psychologist did an experiment a few years ago with those self help tapes. Half the group were given tapes to quit smoking, the other half were given tapes to boost self esteem. All reported improvements after a month.

In the second half of the experiment, the smoking group was secretly given the self esteem tapes, and the self esteem group the stop smoking tapes. Guess what…again everybody reported improvement.

What this suggests is that it is the placebo effect, and the act of doing something positive that effects a change, the tape is irrelevant.
