Can a person become physically addicted to xanax if taken only part-time, say four days a week?
Question by Melissa: Can a person become physically addicted to xanax if taken only part-time, say four days a week?
I am thinking of getting back on it for severe anxiety and sleep issues, but wish to prevent physical addiction. If I were to take .5 mg’s four times a week at night, do you think this would prevent physical addiction? I understand that it is very easy to build up a tolerance to this drug, and so therefore am looking for a way around this. Thanks in advance.

I take Xanax as well, .10 mg. Youre fine, youre taking it the way youre supposed to, it does not sound like youre abusing it at all. (I am to take two 10 mg a day and im totally fine) =)

If the drug increases your quality of life and does not become a problem to where you are doing the drug just to get the high effect than there is really no reason to be concerned. Being dependent on pharmaceuticals is not the same as “Addiction”. Many, many people are dependent on “happy pills” of all sorts, you don’t tell someone who takes Prozac that they’re addicted do you? But they sure are dependent on it and would go through big withdrawls to get off of it. It is all a matter of perspective. Don’t worry about what others think it is none of their business.
