Brain Aneurysm Question?
Question by Christey: Brain Aneurysm Question?
A close family friend is currently going through a divorce, his wife (whom he is divorcing) has severe mental health issues and has for at least 20 years. She is currently 36.
She had a brain aneurysm earlier this week from what I understand this is directly related to her drug use, both recreational and prescribed. A spinal tap revealed 12 different chemical substances in her system, including meth and Oxycontin.
My understanding is that she is stable, though in an induced coma. They have her this way to help alleviate the pressure on her brain. They additionally have her on a amnesiac medication.
My question, to whoever may have experience in the area, is what can be expected when they take her off of the ‘coma medicine’? From what they told our family friend (the husband) they may see full paralysis, partial paralysis, or worse case she may not survive without the life support she is currently on.
As much as I’ve never cared for the individual herself, I am horrified that she has put herself in this situation. She has 2 sons who have been through so much because of her. Both opted to live with there fathers rather than with her. Now both boys have seen their mom at the hospital with all the tubes and shaved head..etc.
At any rate, I’m curious if anyone has experience or knowledge about realistic possibilities for recovery. The only additional information I know is that her systolic was 210.
Thanks for reading
I know that the included information is vague, I’ve only posted what I know…from what I’ve been told. My understanding is that she had been smoking meth and taking Oxycontin the evening of the aneurysm, she complained her head hurt and lost consiousness. It’s my understanding that numerous tests were done and ultimately they had put her on a few medications, for coma and insomnia. The husband told me that when he saw her she did respond here and there, so that the medically induced coma is either not working or perhaps it is a partial sedative to keep her from moving? I understand that no one on the yahoo answers will be able to give me a crystal ball answer. This is just another traumatic event this woman has put her family through because of her selfish and thoughtless ways. The husband and son are amazing people with hearts of gold and it is horrible to watch them go through the things they have with this woman. Thanks for your answers.
