Birth rights to a baby for single mothers.?

Question by Kellie Mariah: Birth rights to a baby for single mothers.?
As a 16 year old mother (as bad as that sounds), living in Alabama, the father of my baby is a known criminal, his record consists of theft, robbery, and possession of ingredients to make meth (anti hydrous ammonia); i’m not exactly “wealthy” and i’m needing support through welfare and TAFNF. If i was to go apply for them, and name the father, would that give him rights to our baby? He was not present when she was born, nor is he on the birth certificate, but i was informed that if i was to ask for help, and named him, he would then be able to have as much to do with her as he could. Now by that, i don’t mean i’m trying to keep her from him, but he’s the type of person, that, when or if he was to get out of prison, he would try and take her from me. I don’t want to loose my baby. I need to know what i can and should do to get financial help.

file for full custody, bring all the proof you can about what a bad person he is. when you go to social services they usually ask you if you know the dad & will file for support. tell them & they will help. good luck!
