Billy Joe Shaver Completes Late Son’s Album…with Son’s Help
HOUSTON, TX (PRWEB) June 17, 2004
The year 1999 was not the best of times for country renegade legend Billy Joe Shaver. He lost the three people he loved the most. His mother Victory Shaver and his wife Brenda Shaver died only three months apart from cancer. On New YearÂs Eve of 2000, ShaverÂs only son and long-time musical collaborator Eddy Shaver was found dead of a heroin overdose. Reportedly he was found in a Waco motel room surrounded by some Âbad companions. At the time of his death, Eddy was at work on an untitled album that was only half completed. Operating from Âvisits and instructions from Eddy, Shaver went ahead and finished the album.
The resultant album, Billy and the Kid, finally will see the light of day on August 24 (BillyÂs 65th birthday) when it is released by Compadre Records. Producer Tony Colton, who worked with Eddy on original recordings, collaborated with Shaver on the album. ColtonÂs other producing credits include albums by artists such as Yes, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Shirley Bassey.
The album kicks off with a new song written by Shaver called ÂFame which is a sentimental look at how he and Eddy pursued their musical dream together.
Some of the Eddy Shaver tracks were recorded in a 1996 Nashville session, while other unfinished tracks come from a session in ShaverÂs hometown of Waco, Texas.
According to Shaver, ÂTony Colton and I have had visits and instructions from Eddy to create this album. The album is full of love, talent and dedication with the tracks that Eddy left Tony and me to finish.Â
