Atheists, so I’m a hypocrite for being against gay marriage but not divorce?

Question by Dimension: Atheists, so I’m a hypocrite for being against gay marriage but not divorce?
I will logically refute this but first, here is what one atheist recently said:

“Christians who are against gay marriage are hypocrites because the Bible speaks out against divorce too. Jesus said in the New Testament that someone that divorces and remarries is commiting adultery and yet I have NEVER heard a Christian say divorce shouldn’t legally recognized unless in cases of adultery or physical or emotional abuse”

That person is taking the facts OUT OF CONTEXT. Yes, I am against divorce, HOWEVER divorce should be legally recognized even if there was no adultery or abuse because it’s all about FREE WILL. It would be immoral to have a law that said people didn’t have to live together anymore but on paper they were still married. We should be able to marry who we want.

Gay marriage, on the other hand should NOT be legally recognized because unlike divorce, it goes against TRADITION because you are taking the law and FORCING people to change the definition of marriage. Gays can have separate but equal civil unions. There is NOTHING wrong with that.

Why do you call that hypocritical? I’m not trying to stop people from being gay.
