Question by Reaga: Assume a 7 kg bowling ball moving at 1 m/s bounces off a spring at the same speed that it had before bouncing.?
Assume a 7 kg bowling ball moving at 1 m/s bounces off a spring at the same speed that it had before bouncing. (Let the initial direction of the bowling ball’s motion be the positive direction. Use the sign of your answers to indicate their direction.)

(a) What is its momentum of recoil?
____kg·m/s

(b) What is its change in momentum? (Hint: What is the change in temperature when something goes from 1 degree to -1 degree?)
____kg·m/s

(c) If the interaction with the spring occurs in 0.5 s, calculate the average force the spring exerts on it.
____ N

Best answer:

Answer by Jessica Y
a. momentum=mass*velocity=7*1=7
b. change is: going down 1 mps to going up 1mps: 1+1=2
c. the force(this is called impulse) is=mv/t=(7*1/.5)=14
