Are we turning soldiers into drug addicts?

Question by soccerluv139: Are we turning soldiers into drug addicts?
It seems as though many soldiers turn to drugs to help with the pain and suffering they are going through whether it be mentally of physically and this addiction comes home with them. What do you think?

To an extent I agree with you. Soldiers see a lot of drugs as a way to solve a problem, and given their experience over there, it may aggravate the problem. On the other hand I believe that a person will abuse drugs no matter if he’ s in the army or not, it’s more a personal step. Army life has a lot of rules, and taking drugs, legally or otherwise is a way to get away from those rules.
If a soldier comes home “broken” , taking whatever drugs he’s supposed to may help, but it does facilitate addiction. Others come home and do illegal drugs, as a way out. Blaming it all on ptsd or other stressors is probably wrong, but it’s the situation we’re in.
To evaluate a soldier psychologically is almost impossible, because none of us wants to admit to something being wrong, so we lie about it.
just my 2 cents…
