Are recovering alcoholics normally more difficult to date than other people?

Question by tangerine: Are recovering alcoholics normally more difficult to date than other people?

I’m posting this question, because I just broke up with a guy who’s a recovering alcoholic. He’s been sober for 11 years, and I’m glad that he’s stayed clean, but one thing that annoyed me about him when I was with him is that he seemed to care more about his AA meetings than he did about me. Is this problem common when it comes to dating recovering alcoholics?
I didn’t break up with him on account of the AA meetings. I broke up with him, because he was inconsiderate and selfish.

You should be very glad. I would feel safe dating someone like that.
At least he takes it serious.

Taking care of himself is more important than making you the center of his universe.
