Annual Youth Tobacco Prevention Summit Dice Won

The City of Hialeahs Parks and Recreation Department (EPI Youth Program) in collaboration with the Miami-Dade County Health Department (Office of Community Health and Planning) and Mayors Office, will be hosting our 3rd Annual Youth Tobacco Prevention Summit on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 6:00-9:00pm at Goodlet Theater and Park, located at 4200 W 8th Ave, Hialeah, FL. 33012. CBS4s Jorge Estevez will be the master of ceremonies. First 500 youth will receive a goodie bag, a meal, t-shirt, and participate in a night long raffle. Other special invitees for the event include the Governor and Florida s Surgeon General. Local Sports teams have been invited and include: The Florida Marlins, The Miami Heat, and The Dolphins. The Tobacco-Free Florida Street Team and Smokifier Van will be in attendance with fun giveaways along with many community and local vendors. The tobacco industry spends 9 Million each year to market their products in Florida (more than in any other state in the nation) In children, Second Hand Smoke exposure can slow lung growth, lead to acute respiratory infections, induce more severe asthma attacks and even lead to sudden infant death syndromes (SIDS). 72 youth in Florida become regular smokers everyday 369000 youth alive today who will die prematurely from smoking Tobacco kills more Americans every year than AIDS, fires, car accidents, homicides, suicides, and all illegal drugs combined.
