Question by This is my awesome nickname ζ: Agree or Disagree? Abusing a drug is a psychological problem?
So, if it IS a psychological problem, isn’t it a little unfair that people get criminally punished for doing drugs when they should just get made to go to mandated rehab or something?

Look at it this way, medically “insane” people get acquitted on MURDER charges or they use the insanity defense. so shouldn’t people who abuse drugs get the same privilege?

that only works if you think abusing drugs is a psychological problem though.

It seems that the only way your scenario would work would be for those using drugs to be deemed “insane” by a court of law and sentenced life in a mental institution for the criminal drug abuser.

Very simply, drugs are illegal. You may choose to break the law and use them or you may choose to cope with the psychosocial problems that plague us all in different ways. Either way you suffer the consequences of your actions, whichever you choose.
