During these sessions the experts first try and understand the actual reasons for addiction and also educate the addicts about addiction consequences and how to get over it by helping change the addict’s thought process.

The program usually starts with a physical detoxification process. This is essential since one’s blood stream needs to become totally clean and all the lingering residue need to cleansed. This is beneficial also for efficacy of medication which takes place. At this stage the chances of having withdrawal symptoms is very high. Handlings of these symptoms need to be undertaken with medical supervision and appropriate equipment. This is important since at times the nature of withdrawal symptoms can prove to become very difficult and harsh. In this period, the addict is also given tranquilizers and other alternatives to drugs such that a person can cope with the situation better.

These include activities like private counseling sessions, group therapies, education on nutrition and health, psychodynamic therapies along with family programs to help estranged relations. There are several alternative solutions like yoga, meditation, hypnotherapy and acupuncture among others which helps one in emotional healing and soothing of the mind. An effective after care program needs to be followed up after the mental and physical detox.
