I saw Spalding Gray for the first time in Ann Arbor in ’91. First and only fan letter I wrote, but I wanted to tell him “..show was great..” but more importantly, I wanted to Thank him in showing people that you can be depressed, go through rough times and still find the humor in it. It doesn’t change or cover up feelings, it’s just a different aspect & doesn’t mean “it can’t be that bad.” Surprisingly he sent me(?) back a letter that said “Dear __, I wish you all the sweet equinimity in the world. Much Love Spalding” and now he’s gone, and in some way, I have never met the man, I feel like I wasn’t there to watch his back. (Us funny, genetically (maybe) depressed people need to stick together.) Give up the endless addiction to Support Groups. I would be horriable in a group like AA. It would be like “all this talking and counting days makes me think about going to have a drink, lets go have a drink and laugh for a minute, you wanna?” LONG post, but another person is Robin Williams
