Dependent Personality – Even asking about it bad right?
Question by Anon A: Dependent Personality – Even asking about it bad right?
Having looked back over the last 8 or so years, and comparing to things I have read, I’ve basically come to the (self) shocking conclusion that I have a dependent personality (disorder perhaps). I was variously treated for depression, self-harming and each time these have been “cured” easily. I’ve leant heavily on relationships, and don’t make any decisions without seeking advice, usually from my wife, but sometimes many people. E.g. can’t buy clothes on my own, asked about 10 people before I had last haircut. I function pretty well at work, it appears only to be social/personal decisions. I’m also pretty terrible at searching for “answers” in books or on the internet.
In hind sight therapy was always treating the wrong thing, but was feeding my desire for “help”. It feels like I’m “addicted” to seeking help, hence asking this question is possibly a bad idea!
I feel like catch 22. Now I know do I see a therapist again, or should I try go “cold turkey”?

seeing a therapist is your best bet. i think its hard resolving these types of issues on your own. good luck!
