Do you believe their is such a thing as “facts”?
Question by t. m: Do you believe their is such a thing as “facts”?
Assuming “facts” reffer to an occurance that actually happened, or, a preponderance of evidence that such occurence happened. I believe you can take said occurences, i.e. facts, and use them to support either side of an arguement, (we are negating the use of time machines to go back and check the actual occurences as they have’nt been invented yet). For instance Take O.J. It is now true that he is both guilty and innocent , at the same time, judged by 2 laws of court. I don’t want to argue OJ, please. Just use him as an example. a hypnotizicle (hypotheticle) example….. If some one had hypnotized him to kill his wife then the hypnotyzer wouyld be guilty, even though OJ really did it. Just one of many ways in which OJ could both have done or not done it. My beef is with politicle arguer’s (mainly neo/cons)who say look at the facts, which I can take the same statements and use them to support my (liberal) argument…THE SAME “FACTS” as it were
To Adam S. 2+ 2 in base 2 is 20 in bas 3 it’s some thing else. I have even heard that in a certain type of math (other then base whatever) 2+ 2 does not equal 4
Come on some one…Jump out of your indoctrination into socitey’s social contract and think outside.

There are facts. Common sense gives you access to them. Too many logic or math or philosophy classes block the facts off from you forever, and turn fact-finding into a formulaic abstract game, one rule of which states “there are no facts” embedded in the fine print somewhere.
Sensible people know the truth. Brainy or overeducated people sometime have a harder route there.
