Codeine addiction?
Question by Mr M: Codeine addiction?
Do you think I may be suffering from codeine addiction? This morning I woke up and everything was fine, was getting ready for the day, and bang! I felt a small pain in my neck and shoulders. Within 15-20 minutes this turned into unbearable muscle pain in my legs, arms, chest, back, neck, and I had cramps, nausea, and a small migraine. I thought I was going to pass out from the pain, and got scared.
But it came to me… I’ve been taking Tylenol 3’s everyday to phase out my headaches (i was diagnosed as a chronic migraine sufferer) I started out with 60 mg of codeine every 3-4 times a week at the first sign of migraines. It came to 60-90 mg once in the morning and once at night (180 mg in a day) to stop daily aura (a migraine symptom that made me go blind in one eye once).
I haven’t had any in 48 hours. I gave in… and took 90 mg of codeine and all the symptoms left in less then 20 mins. I don’t like this, where should I go, who to tell? mid-terms start on monday at college. help?

Do you find the you CANNOT function without it? That you crave it even when you don’t need it? It’s normal for people with chronic pain to need meds to manage their pain. It’s only an addiction if the medication control your life instead of you controlling the meds.
