micro managing board of directors?
Question by sheshethedog: micro managing board of directors?
How do you stop directors of a local government entity from micro managing? They are driving us crazy. They have just recently started this nit picky crap and we are on the verge of walking out. I know that they have nothing else to do and we have tried to divert their attention to other “details”. Like what they should be doing. Their main objective in life right now is to see if they can down grade the “hired help”. Isn’t there a law against this? They have made us feel stupid and scared to do anything without prior knowledge. I am scared to answer the phone that I may be saying the wrong thing now after 10 years of working here. What can we do as employees? Do we just quit, or is there help out there somewhere? I thank you for all your help.

There may be a reason for their micro managing. You should try to find out if they’ve become aware of some problem that has caused them to question the ability of the managers.
Directors have a legal responsibility, known as a fiduciary duty, to make sure that an organization is being run properly and that policy is working out the way they set it up. Many times when employees perceive directors as micromanagers, it’s a situation that has arisen because the directors have become aware of a problem they consider serious.
If there’s a problem, perhaps you can help solve it, and thus eliminate the need for micro-managing.
