Question by erin go brach: trying to quit drinking on your own?
my girlfriend and my mom uh they were at my house together when i came home wfrom work. they talked to me about my drinking and what ythey think of it. my initial was reaction was to get mad and defensive about it. but aint been able to sleep tonight..just because ive been thinking about what they said. and its true what they said im not going to deny it. i do drink alot i guess…i drink every night after work but i dont get “drunk” i just like to feel a buzz. now going out and getting hammered is a 3-4x weekly thing with the guys. anyways, they read a couple “treatment” places/programs to me. but i honestly dont think i need to go away to some rehab facility. a) because it doesnt ineterfere with my daily life b) its not serious enough to the point that id need to be secluded like that….
my question is for ppl who’ve made a change like this.. cutting down their drinking or completely cutting it out.did you every try doing it by yourself? Any tips/guidance/opinions are appreciated.
i guess what youre saying is to do it for myself when i feel that i need to…and not for other people if im not “understanding” the prbelm?

Some people can and some can’t. My son did it on his own and has been sober for over a year now.It takes will power and a change in your thinking and daily habits( not doing things that will trigger you wanting a drink). If it doesn’t work for you then maybe an in treatment will work.
