Question by brimstone1252: I am 17 and I got caught with weed at school, what are the legal consequences?
I was caught smoking in my car on school grounds. I had around 3 or 4 grams and a pipe. I got arrested and suspended for 5 days but i was wondering what else is going to happen to me. Will I have to go to court, or drug counseling, or juvie, or community service, or what?
I live in California and it was my first offense. It’s only a misdemeanor in California right?

I believe that the school is legally responsible to report the incident to te authorities. It really depends on the state that you got in. If it was a state that has very lenient drug laws, it will be considered a misdemeanor. In other states it’s a felony and you may have jail time. At 17, they can even charge you as an adult. My ex-boyfriend was caught in a drug sting with only a dime and was charged with a felony. BUT he plead first offender and got off with no jail time at all. He did have to go to “DRUG COURT” it’s where you have to go to classes three times a week for 6 months, then 2 times a week with 2 AA classes for 6 months… I think most states have these classes now because of all the drug charges. It really all depends on the state and if it’s your first time because they may go easy on you.
