Where do really young kids learn to self harm?

Question by Eden: Where do really young kids learn to self harm?
I’m recovering from a self harm addiction that I’ve had as long as I can remember. Recently, I bought a book about recovery from addictions and it said to look in to how and why you started doing the behavior you’re trying to quit.

The problem is, I have no idea where my self harm came from. My first memory of it was probably in second grade, when a teacher was pretty freaked out to find marks all over my arms and legs from where I’d been snapping a bunch of rubber bands. I never saw anyone else self harm, in fact, I remember being shocked in high school when I learned about it in health class. I’d had no idea I wasn’t the only one on the planet to do such a thing.

So where does it come from? If you or your kid or someone you know has looked in to this, I would really love to know some answers, I think it might help me a lot to understand. I can’t believe that an intense desire for pain would come straight out nowhere, but I have no idea where else it could be from. Thanks for reading this.

Surely there is no straight answer, these compulsory behaviours are mostly from family trauma when very young, you probably dont remember it, psicological violence or mistreatment or just plain abandonment,, that still continues till now,, It´s better if you talk to this with a therapist,a shrink or a psicologist. Good luck,, its no thing to freak yourself about, some people eat raw onions, others love to pierce themselves,, no different, same problem, different aproach,, now if this worries you, it probably means you dont want to do it anymore,,, so its time to stop using diapers,,!!, if you get what i mean.. time to grow up and face it,, And get some nice and caring friends around you and be open about it,,its important to get support after therapy…. if you can of course..
