Gay Rights vs. Marijuana Legalization- your take?

Question by ஐвluє вєαя-яyஐ™: Gay Rights vs. Marijuana Legalization- your take?
So. I want your take on this. See that article on the main Yahoo! page? If you’ll give it a read, you’ll spot something like this:

~Nadelmann and other proponents of the ballot initiative equate it to gay rights, in that “people are coming out of the closet and defeating the notion that they need to be punished for engaging in this ‘deviant activity.'”~

Do you find it fair that your rights- human rights, to marry, to love, to be accepted- are being compared to drug rights- to get high, to smoke up a plant, to rid yourself of problems for a while and make the fat cats RICH while you’re at it?

Do you really find it appropriate that these two things get categorized together, outside of being debates in general? How people honestly think they are similar bills with similar morality in context when it comes to passing?

Tell me what you think.

(I agree with the legalization of marijuana FOR MEDICAL USAGE. Sometimes, my friends will ask me why “not for normal use”, and it’s because I will NOT support legalization of a DRUG (yes, a drug) that alters your mind in any form (this includes alcohol). I know friends who have used it/are using it, and have changed so much, and I dislike it with a passion.)
My rant is my individual opinion, actually. I wasn’t really ranting, was I?- I was presenting my take on it. Answer what you see fit, first answerer.
Captain- Obviously, nobody. I’m questionng whether getting high on a drug should have actually been a defined right long ago, like gay rights (IMO, of course).
Look, I’m not asking for a definition of Marijuana and what you think is ‘more dangerous’. You think since jumping off a building is more dangerous than trying cocaine once, that it’s a bit more justified? (Just an example.)

I am asking, specifically, whether rights to do with drugs are in a sense equal to rights to do with human equality.
Morality or not, I’m speaking in terms of common sense, I’d presume?

you have both a rant and a legit question…so you want us to answer your rant or your actual question?

Both are about personal freedom. No one else gets to dictate how we live our lives.

As for your rant- of course people change. You think that happens because of a plant?

Mcdonalds is more dangerous than this plant. You eat mcdonalds twice a day and see how much you change. It will not be pretty.
