If someone has a long history of drug & alcohol abuse, what’s the odds that they’ll have a healthy baby?
Question by EllenCarter74: If someone has a long history of drug & alcohol abuse, what’s the odds that they’ll have a healthy baby?
I’m wondering because my sister talks about wanting a child all the time. The thing is, she has been doing drugs since she’s been 15 (now 31). Also, she’s been an off & on heavy drinker for about 10 years.
I keep telling her that she needs to quit her bad habits if she ever wants a child. I’ve actually tried everything to make her stop her habits, but you know…most addicts will only stop if they WANT to. I know she has problems.
So anyway, I was just wondering if she DID end up getting pregnant at some point during this time…won’t the baby most likely be born with quite a few problems?
I would think that her organs are probably too screwed up by now, for anything good to ever come out of it.

Take her to a really good doctor. Get her a thorough check up. That is the only way you will be able to know whether she can still bear a healthy child or not.
Hope this helps.
