I’m only sixteen. I don’t know very much. Say I wanted to write a story, for example. I couldn’t provide you a gripping recollection of drug abuse along with the miraculous recovery because I’ve never been through anything of the sorts. I couldn’t tell you what it’s like to meet exciting new people in a far away land – heck, I’ve never been outside the Midwest. I couldn’t write a legal or medical drama considering my not-so-scholarly grades I’m receiving in criminal justice and biology. I might at least know where to begin if I wanted to tell you a story of a high school girl in Western Wisconsin, but let’s be honest – who wants to relive the many trials and tribulations of grades nine through ten that most of us would rather just put behind us for the rest of our existence?

Like I said, I’m not the most knowledgeable or experienced writer ever to grace a keyboard. I am, however, well-versed and quite seasoned in one subject which I could easily vomit a novel about in a matter of at most a week, and that is love. I’ve been through it, over it, underneath it, beside it, squeezed in between two or three and been thrown from it completely. I may not know how it works, nor do I have any answers as to why it comes about and at other times abandons with such inconvenient timing. I could tell you, on the other hand, how you feel when it decides to swallow your life whole, the reactions people have when it’s not supposed to be, the reasons one may or may not stay with one whom they do or do not love. Nothing in love is black and white. There are no formulas. But the beautiful, amazing thing about love is that it needs no logic to work. It doesn’t have to make sense to be real. You may not believe in it, but if that’s the case, it’s only because you’ve never experienced it. Once you have, you’ll never be the same, I promise. And as much as you may despise it and who it makes you become, the truth is, we all live for love and love it so because of one thing: it’s the closest thing we have to magic.
