why can’t “whitewashed” african-americans see the good in their culture?
Question by depressed2312: why can’t “whitewashed” african-americans see the good in their culture?
and why do other african-americans play on the negative?
First off, I don’t agree with the term “whitewashed” I used it because it was a term that could get my point across.
People consider me a whitewashed black because I act and look white…whatever that means
The other “whitewashed” blacks tend to disown their culture and heritage in hopes of becoming more white
i find it absurd…every culture has their negatives and positives. I like our culture I mean think about it…..jazz music, beauitful singing voices we are blessed with, blues, and kinship, I’ve also noticed alot of black people have nice smiles
so why listen to “statistics” (I abhor statistics, they’re heavily biased and the reason I didn’t take ap stat)
I love watching movies like dreamgirls, ray, and drumline (characterizing black colleges)
I brought this up because one of my acquaintances is white washed in her thinking (it’s more than how she dresses it’s how she perceives herself)
these people truly disgust me….. I wish I could force them to Read the Autobiography of Malcolm X

Because they have been brainwashed by tv to believe we all should have straight hair, thin lips and skinny. My daughter always tells me to straighten my hair. I will not do it because I want to hold on to the image I have grown to love. My naturally curly locks, large hips & thighs and beautiful brown skin (however I am also a light complexion and always considered an Islander).
