Pregnancy, doctor visit costs, and being “too far along”?
Question by Qwerti C: Pregnancy, doctor visit costs, and being “too far along”?
Two months ago my girlfriend and I discovered that she was pregnant. It took us some time to save up the money for a doctors appointment, and now most of the doctors she calls refuse to see her because she’s “too far along.” In fact, we could only find ONE who agreed to see us. I’m completely new to all things pregnancy, but why would a doctor refuse to see you because you haven’t seen them from early on? I’m guessing this isn’t unusual, because most of the doctors are doing this in my area.
The doctor we have an appointment for will charge us $ 350 for some tests they need to run, but they’re not very straight forward about the cost.
When I asked about the first appointment, they quoted me $ 2,000-something for a vaginal delivery. I just wanted to see how much a visit was. I’m so very confused!
And in this office, the secretary is very rude and impatient. So I decided to get information from you guys, rather than taking any more of this “abuse”.
Long story short: How does pregnancy work, in relation to doctor visits and payment?
Thanks,
Qwerti C.

Find your nearest family planning, Family Independence Agency (F.I.A), or a Human Resources building. They can get you help, and also maternity insurance if you qualify. That’s terrible, but most doctors do that… I’m sorry I can’t help you more, but hopefully you can find one of these agencies. Make sure she has her prenatal above all else even if you cant get to a doctor!! Go and talk to people at a Health Store like GNC or something similar if you have not already.
