Is this a potential summer job for me?

Question by Super Melsa: Is this a potential summer job for me?
A nearby business (The Craigslist ad didn’t say which one, but it’s in a small town of small businesses, so it’s probably privately owned.) is looking for “counter help/waitstaff/bartenders for the summer season.” I’ll be 16 on May 16, in plenty of time for the “summer season,” so I’m curious about the “counter help” position (From my past job-hunting experience, I assume that entails phone calls, handling take out, etc.) My only questions are, since I know the other two are out due to the alcohol, would it be legal for me to work there? And… How should I go about asking if they’re even willing to hire a 16 yr. old? As in, how should I phrase it without sounding like a confused little kid?

Take your birth certificate to City Hall and get your Work Permit. Once you have that you know that it is legal for the business to hire you for non-alcohol jobs. Each company makes its own decisions on the age limits. But 16 should be fine because the boss knows that 16 year olds are pretty hard workers.
Just go in person and ask “Have you got any job openings today?”. That is all you need to say..
