how do i help him quit?
Question by debrah123: how do i help him quit?
my boy friends trying to quit smoking, he’s been doing it for at least 4 years. (cigarettes) anyway, he really wants to quit and i want him to too, but he keeps on falling back into it. he ends up lying to me. why is it that he lies to me? im trying to help him. but thats not my main question, is there anything i can do to help him quit? aside from support. he complains that he’s gaining weight but everyone knows when people get bored they eat, and same with smoking. so since he’s quit smoking he eats when he’s bored… its an endless circle. and most of his friends smoke so theres a sociocultural factor that im sure makes it worse. anyway he’s used lozenges and he says that “helps”(why doesn’t it work then i don’t get it) he hates gum so thats a no. any tips to help him stop is greatly appreciated

Nicotine is an appetite-suppressor so it does tend to keep you thinner.
If you want to help him quit, ask him how much money he spends on cigarettes during the course of a week. Then have him multiply that by 52 – the number of weeks in a year.
Have him MAKE himself wait as long as possible between cigarettes before he lights up the next one.
Even better, ask him to wait 35 minutes between one cigarette and the next. Try that for two weeks. Then add 5 minutes for the next two weeks. Add 5 minutes every two weeks and see how that does.
